Ozzy Osbourne – No More Tears

About The Song

“No More Tears” is the fifth song and title track on the 1991 Ozzy Osbourne album of the same name. With a running time of 7:23, it is the longest solo song that Osbourne has ever recorded on a studio album. It reached number five on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 17 on the Dutch Top 40 chart and number 32 on the UK Singles Chart.
A very macabre song about a stalker who torments women in a red-light district, “No More Tears” was written by Ozzy Osbourne along with his guitarist Zakk Wylde, drummer Randy Castillo, bass player Mike Inez and producer John Purdell. Wylde told Songfacts how it came together: “We were just messing around in rehearsals. Mike started jamming that on the bass, then Randy started playing drums, and then John started doing that keyboard bit.”
No More Tears was the first album Ozzy recorded while he was sober. This was a big change for him, since he had done drugs and alcohol for over 20 years. He became a family man, and was even rumored to exercise from time to time.
“No More Tears” was the title track and first single from Ozzy’s sixth solo album. Unlike his previous albums, it did not have a demonic title and cover art, and while this song is dark fantasy, many of the other songs are more personal and reflective, particularly “Mama, I’m Coming Home” and “Road To Nowhere.” Ozzy is pictured on the cover with angel wings.
Ozzy called the subsequent tour “No More Tours,” and said it would be his last. After it ended, he got bored and decided to tour some more, calling his next one the “Retirement Sucks Tour.”
The No More Tears album was digitally remastered and re-released in 2002, then issued again in 2021 for the 30th anniversary. It holds up as a classic from Ozzy’s catalog and sold over 4 million copies in America, remarkable considering he was 42 when it was released.

Lyrics

The light in the window is a crack in the sky
A stairway to darkness in the blink of an eye
A levee of tears to learn she’ll never be coming back
The man in the dark will bring another attack
Your momma told you that you’re not supposed to talk to strangers
Look in the mirror, tell me, do you think you life’s in danger, yeah?
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
(Tears, tears…)
Another day passes as the night closes in
The red light goes on to say it’s time to begin
I see the man around the corner waiting, can he see me?
I close my eyes and wait to hear the sound of someone screaming here
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
It’s just a sign of the times
Going forward in reverse
Still, he who laughs last
Is just a hand in the bush
So now that it’s over, can we just say goodbye? (I’d like, I’d like)
I’d like to move on and make the most of the night
Maybe a kiss before I leave you this way
Your lips are so cold, I don’t know what else to say
I never wanted it to end this way, my love, my darling
Believe me when I say to you in love, I think I’m falling here
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
No more tears (Tears, tears)
Is just a hand in the bush
(In the bush, in the bush, in the bush…)
